Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) tube (only acceptable specimen)
Specimen Volume: 100 uL of EDTA plasma

Stability :Centrifuge and perform testing immediately or separate the plasma from the cells immediately for transport.  Store separated plasma samples at 2-8ºC, and test within 24 hours of collection.  If samples cannot be tested within the above timeframe, plasma should be separated and frozen for up to 9 months at -20ºC or below in plastic tubes.  Samples may undergo up to 4 freeze/thaw cycles without degradation.  Samples should be tested within 8 hours after thawing.

Collection Instructions: Samples should be collected in plastic tubes only because the BNP molecule has been shown to be unstable in glass containers.
