Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Lavender-Top (EDTA) Whole Blood

Specimen Volume: 300µL Whole Blood (3mL Lavender EDTA tube with minimum volume of 1mL), or 250µL Whole Blood (EDTA Microtainer)

Stability: Samples are stable for 24 hours at room temperature and up to 36 hours at 4°C.  Refrigerated samples must be allowed to come to room temperature before testing.

Collection Instructions: Forward promptly.

0-14 days: 18.0-22.0 g/dL

15-29 days: 16.0-19.0 g/dL

1-5 months: 13.5-18.5 g/dL

6-23 months: 11.0-16.0 g/dL

2-3 years: 10.0-14.2 g/dL

4-13 years: 10.9-14.9 g/dL

≥14 years: 14.0-17.7 g/dL
 

Critical values

0-14 days: <10.0 g/dL or >25.0 g/dL
>14 days: <7.0 g/dL or >20.0 g/dL
