Specimen Requirements

Acceptable Specimens:

Amniotic fluid, blood, bone marrow, or tissue

 

Amniotic Fluid

2 sterile tubes (minimum volume: 7-10 mL each) of amniotic fluid. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

 

Blood

Submit 5 mL to 10 mL (pediatric/minimum volume: 2 mL) of whole blood (sodium heparin). Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Obtain sodium heparin tube from the laboratory. Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

 

 

Bone Marrow

Submit 3 mL of bone marrow aspirate in a sodium heparin tube. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note:  Obtain sodium heparin tube from the laboratory. Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

 

Tissue

Submit tissue collected aseptically and placed in tissue media tube or a screw-capped, sterile container with tissue media. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

An interpretive report is provided.
