This testing is only approved for patients under the age of 7.  Any requests for this test on patients 7 and older cannot be performed by this method.  Recommend testing using Respiratory Virus Antigens Panel, LAB1307, if patient is 7 and older.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Preferred:

Nasopharyngeal Swab

1. Submit nasopharyngeal swab (flocked swab in Universal Transport Media (UTM)).  Collection kits are available from the lab upon request.  NOTE: Calcium alginate swabs are not acceptable.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. 

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

 

Alternate:

Nasal Washing or Nasal Aspirate

1. Submit 2 mL to 3 mL of nasal washing or nasal aspirate in a screw-capped, sterile container.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.
