Specimen Requirements

2 mL from a first-morning urine collection is preferable. Forward promptly. Specimen stability is 1 hour at ambient temperature. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour but ≤24 hours, send specimen refrigerated.

Reference Values

Clarity: clear

Glucose: negative mg/dL

Bilirubin: negative g/dL

Ketones: negative mg/dL

Specific Gravity: 1.005-1.030

Blood: negative mg/dL

pH: 5.0-8.0

Protein: negative mg/dL

Urobilinogen: 0.1-1.0 eu/dL

Nitrites: negative mg/dL

Leukocyte Esterase: negative

Note: A positive result is reported as a semi-quantitative number.
