Specimen Requirements

For male urine specimens (preferred sample):  Collect a first voided (dirty) urine sample, preferred, but a random voided (dirty) urine sample is acceptable.

 

For male urethral specimens:

1.  Submit a Red top Culturette Swab from the urethral area.  (Swab with gel as transport medium is not acceptable.)

2.  Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

     Note:  Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

3.  If specimen transport to laboratory is delayed, detection of Trichomonas may be compromised.

 

For female urine specimens (in the event that a Vaginitis Screen cannot be performed):  Collect a first voided (dirty) urine sample.
