Specimen Requirements

1.  Submit 1 mL of freshly passed stool (no preservative added) in a screw-capped, sterile container.  (Do not contaminate stool specimen with urine.)

2.  Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

 

Note: Fresh specimen must be refrigerated and tested within 72 hours of collection.  If longer transport is anticipated, specimen should be frozen.  Indicate the specimen source on the specimen container and in computer.

 

Unacceptable specimens: swabs, samples in preservative or extremely watery stools.
