Specimen Requirements


Preferred: Gold-top serum gel tube

Acceptable: Plain Red-top tube, Green-top (heparinized) tube, or lavender-top (EDTA) tube 

Specimen Volume: 180 uL of serum or plasma

Stability: Do not use samples that have been stored at room temperature for longer than 8 hours. Store specimens at 2-8ºC for 48 hours or for longer storage, place in freezer at ≤20ºC.

Collection Instructions: Allow samples to clot adequately before centrifugation.  Samples should be free of fibrin or other particulate matter before placing samples on the system. Avoid hemolyzing specimen during collection.

Useful For

The measurement of autoantibodies against thyroid peroxidase is useful in identifying patients with autoimmune thyroid disease.
