Specimen Requirements
Once received in the laboratory, the specimen(s) will be accessioned in the AP computer system.
Specimen Type: Body fluid or tissue
Container/Tube: RPMI tissue culture media
Collection Instructions:
1. Dispense specimen into culture media.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Additional Information: Indicate specimen source on
specimen container and in computer.
Specimen Type: Bone marrow
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) or green top (sodium heparin
Specimen Volume: 1-2 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Send specimen in original tube.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA), pink top (EDTA), or green top sodium heparin
