Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube:
Preferred: Green-top (lithium heparin) tube
Acceptable: Gold-top serum gel tube, plain red-top tube, or lavender-top (EDTA) tube
-Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.
Minimum Specimen Volume: 6 µL plus a dead volume
Stability: Serum or plasma on the analyzer should be analyzed within 2 hours. Store specimens at 2 – 8 °C and analyzed within 7 days. Store at 20‑25 °C for 2 days. For longer storage, samples may be frozen at -20 °C for up to 12 months. The sample may be frozen twice.
Note: This assay is affected by biotin interference.

Males: 30-400ng/mL
Females: 13-150 ng/mL

Useful For
Serum ferritin levels may serve as a tool to monitor the effects of iron therapy, but results should be interpreted with caution, as ferritin levels in these cases may not always reflect the true state of iron stores.
