Test Code GPAPCR Group Strep A PCR, LAB6555

Important Note

This assay is for throat specimens only and will test only for Group A Strep.

Note: this is used as a reflex to the Rapid Strep assay for off-site locations. The blue capped swab is only stable for 60 minutes after collection. Transfer to the Eswab ASAP. The Eswab in the Copan Kit is needed for testing. DO NOT THROW AWAY.

Specimen Requirements

1.  Submit a throat collected  ESwab at 15-30C within 48 hours of collection or BBL Culture Swab at 5-25C within 24 hours of collection.

2.  Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature. Must be received in the lab within 48 hours or 24 hours of collection respectively.

Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

Methodology

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)/DNA Extraction/PCR Amplification/Hybridization using Cepheid GeneXpert.
