Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Gold-top serum gel tube or plain, red-top tube

Acceptable: Green-top (lithium heparin or sodium heparin) tube or lavender-top (EDTA) tube 

Specimen minimum Volume: 30 uL plus dead space of serum or plasma

Stability: Store samples at 2 to 8°C up to 21 days. Store at 25°C for 3 days. Freeze samples, devoid of red blood cells, at or below -20°C for up to 3 months. Samples can be frozen 6 times.

Samples with equivocal and reactive results with the index value greater than 1.00 will be sent to UnityPoint Pathology Laboratories for confirmatory testing.  See C390S_HCV Algorithm for proper handling.  The confirmation order HCVPCR requires 1 mL of EDTA plasma or serum.  Clinical Testing | Pathology Laboratory

Results will be transmitted to the Iowa Disease Surveillance System through the IDSS interface.
