Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube:
Preferred: Gold-top serum gel tube
Acceptable: Lavender-top EDTA plasma or plain, red-top serum, green-top lithium heparin. Other anticoagulants are acceptable if needed. Contact St. Luke's laboratory if needed.
Minimum Volume: 60 uL and dead space
Transport: Specimens without a separator must have the serum or plasma removed from cells prior to transport.
Stability: Store samples at 2- 8°C for up to 4 weeks. Store samples at 20° to 25°C for up to 7 days. Freeze samples, devoid of red blood cells, at or below -20°C for up to 3 months. Samples can be frozen 5 times. Thoroughly mix thawed samples.
