Specimen Requirements
Acceptable Specimens:
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) or protected specimen brushings (PSB)
Unacceptable Specimens:
Bronchial washings
1.Submit 1 mL of bronchoalveolar lavage or protected specimen brushing collected with a bronchoscope, in a screw-capped, sterile container.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and in computer.

<1,000 cfu/ml in Protected Specimen Brushings
<10,000 cfu/ml in Bronchial Lavage Specimens
