Useful For
CSF protein measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as meningitis, brain tumor, and infections of the central nervous system. Examination of CSF total protein and specific proteins is used chiefly to detect increased permeability of the blood/brain barrier to plasma proteins or to detect increased intrathecal secretion of immunoglobulins (IGs).
