Eosinophils may be noted in patients with tubulointerstitial disease associated with hypersensitivity to drugs such as penicillin and its analogs. Eosinophiluria is also seen in other acute disorders of the genitourinary tract. Eosinophiluria is reported in up to 100% of patients with acute interstitial nephritis. This finding is useful in distinguishing this syndrome from acute tubular necrosis, in which eosinophiluria is absent.
