Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:

Preferred:  Lavender-top (EDTA) tube
Specimen Volume: 1 mL of EDTA whole blood, minimum 200 uL

Stability: Specimens may be stored up to 7 days at 2-8°C or 3 days at 15-25°C.

HEMOGLOBIN A1C

4.2-5.6%:  Normal HbA1c

5.7-6.4%:  Increased risk for diabetes

≥ 6.5%:  Diagnostic for diabetes
