Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Heparinized Syringe, whole blood

Acceptable: Dark Green tube, whole blood

                    Autopsy specimens are stored refrigerated until analysis can be done.

Specimen Volume: 65 uL of heparinized whole blood

Stability: Should be ran immediately or samples should be placed in refrigeration (preferred) or on ice for up to 1 hour.

Reference Values

0.0-1.5%

Results ≥5% are reported to the Iowa Disease Surveillance System
