Primary test for current infection of Treponema Pallidum (syphilis).

Specimen Requirements

Container/tube:

Preferred:  Gold SST serum may be stored for up to 7 days at 2-8C

Acceptable:  Red top serum may be stored for up to 7 days at 2-8C after separation from the red cells which should be completed within 2 hours of collection.

Specimen volume:  1 mL

 

Note:  Specimens with gross lipemia or hemolysis will be rejected.

Reference Values

Negative

Equivocal or positive results will reflex to RPR testing. 

If treponema antibody and RPR results are discordent and no history of previous TPPA testing, specimen will be forwarded to Mayo for TPPA testing.
