Important Note

Primary or initial test should be SYPHGM:  Syphilis IgG IgM w/ Reflex, LAB5650

RPR testing is a non-treponemal assay that is synonymous with the VDRL assay.  This test is to be used to follow therapy of a patient being treated for syphilis.

Specimen Requirements

Container/tube:

Preferred:  Gold SST or red top serum -  may be stored for up to 5 days at 2-8C

Acceptable:  Purple top (EDTA) or green top (heparin) plasma - may be stored for up to 48 hours at 2-8C

Specimen volume:  1 mL

 

Note:  Specimens with gross lipemia or hemolysis will be rejected.

Negative

If positive, a titer will be determined.
