Specimen Requirements

15 mL (minimum volume: 2 mL) from a first-morning urine collection is preferable, but testing can be performed on a random urine collection. Forward promptly. Specimen stability is 1 hour at ambient temperature. Specimens should be sent refrigerated if testing cannot occur within 1 hour of collection. Refigerated stability is 24 hours. Specimen should have no additive.

Bilirubin: Negative g/dL

Ketones: Negative mg/dL

Specific gravity: 1.005-1.030

Blood: negative mg/dL

pH: 5.0-8.0

Urobilinogen: <2.0 eu/dL

Nitrites: Negative mg/dL

Leukocyte esterase: Negative

Note: A positive result is reported as a semi-quantitative number.
