Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:

Preferred: 12-hour urine collection

Specimen Volume: A minimum volume of 4.5 µL plus a dead volume from a 12-hour timed urine collection. No preservative.

Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.

Stability: Urine specimens are stable at 20-25 ⁰C for 1 day, 7 days at 4-8 ⁰C, or 1 month at -20 ⁰C.

Collection Instructions: Obtain 24-hour urine jug from laboratory

Note: 1. Urine should be collected before fluorescein is given or at least 24 hours after.

          2. Starting and ending times of collection are required for processing.

          3. When a 12-hour urine for protein is done, a PV (period and volume) must also be

              ordered and resulted.  (FOR LAB USE ONLY)
