Important Note

This should only be ordered if sending an actual worm for ID.

If sending stool looking for parasites, order Ova and Parasites, Feces, LAB258 or Stool FilmArray Panel, Lab5043.

State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL), Coralville

Submit worm in 5-10 mL of 70-80% ethanol in a clean container with tight fitting lid.

Transport at room temperature.

Unacceptable specimens: Stool. Unpreserved specimens. Specimens in preservative other than ethanol.

Negative: Submitted specimen not a worm/parasite.

Macroscopie and microscopic examination of worm for identification.

State Hygienic Lab average turnaround time is 1 to 3 business days.
