Specimen Requirements
For situations where chain-of-custody is required, a complete chain-of-custody protocol must be maintained when drawing and handling specimens. Legal ethanol specimens must be drawn by trained personnel.
Container/Tube: Grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube
Specimen: 1 mL of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride whole blood.
Collection Instructions: A non-alcohol swab (Betadine) must be used to sterilize drawing site.
Additional Information:
1. A completed Chain-of-Custody Form is required when processing a chain-of-custody specimen.
2. Patient ingestion of alcohol-containing medicinal liquids (ie, elixirs and mouthwashes) may affect result.
