Specimen Requirements


Preferred: Green-top (lithium heparin) tube

Acceptable: Gold-top serum gel tube or plain red-top tube

Specimen Volume: 0.2 mL of plasma or serum

Stability: Specimens may be stored at 2 – 8°C for seven days. For longer storage, samples

                may be frozen at -20°C for up to eight months if they are frozen within 24 hours

                after collection.

Reference Values

Inflammatory: 0-6.3 mg/L

Low risk for cardiac disease: 0.0-0.9 mg/L

Average risk for cardiac disease: 1.0-3.0 mg/L

High risk for cardiac disease: >3.0 mg/L
