This assay is a reflex test based on testing results.

Specimen Requirements

Container/tube:

Preferred:  Gold SST serum may be stored for up to 5 days at  2-8 °C and indefinitely at -15 to -25 °C.

Acceptable:  Red top serum

Specimen volume:  0.5 mL

 

Note:  Specimens with gross lipemia or hemolysis will be rejected.

Reference Values

Nonreactive - A nonreactive result indicates no past or present infection, but during early incubating-stage syphilis a nonreactive result may also occur.

Indeterminate - A inconclusive / indeterminant result should be followed by a second sample in two weeks.

Reactive - A reactive treponemal test indicates a past or present infection and usually remains for life.
